Our Story

VENUE HISTORY - A gentle mix of "older world charm" with just the right touch of modern convenience.

We searched, for what seemed like an eternity, for the perfect location to create an intimate wedding venue in Southeastern Kentucky.  When it seemed we had exhausted all our potential options, we found what would become “The Swan House” in Barbourville, KY. This structure had obviously been a well-loved, private home during its many stately years (constructed in 1949).  We saw the potential for it to be even more, and decided it deserved a fitting name to add to its history.       

WHY “THE SWAN HOUSE”......

Swans are truly elegant creatures.  The look of their graceful, arching necks as they move calmly across mirrored lakes creates a sense of peace and wonder.  For us, The Swan House is a structure that represents a timeless grace and quiet elegance in so many of its features. Each room is appropriately named to continue the theme throughout the house.  The venue has open rooms with high ceilings, two fireplaces, beautiful hard wood floors and arched doorways.  It also features dressing room areas for the wedding party on those very special days.  A large back yard lends itself well to additional photo opportunities among the trees as well as an area to simply relax and visit with friends and family during scheduled events.   We feel The Swan House exudes a sense of tranquility, and vintage charm, for all who enter in.        

There is also another interesting reason behind the venue name.  Did you know that swans mate for life?  During their mating ritual, their necks form a perfect heart as they touch their bills together in what resembles a sweet kiss.  We see that as a vivid image that quietly conveys an underlying blessing for all those who choose our facility for their new beginning.

Swans teach us a lesson…..to live a life of love! When you have found your “swan”, and are ready to commit to one another, we are here for you! 

OUR PROGRESS:

The Groom's Dressing Room (or The Cobb Den) is now ready for use.  Our gentlemen have a dressing area, card table, dart board, various board games....... and a 70" TV for their viewing pleasure.  A gaming system is coming very soon!  

There are still plans for creating a backyard event space and upgrading the 2nd story patio area for small group use (2023).  Be sure to stay tuned for continued updates.
